A Critical Decision   Among the many decisions you will make as you plan your dissertation is when and how you will collect data. You do not get extra credit for having difficult design. So if possible it is best to have only one point in tme to gather your data. It will make your life much easier. This will simplify the data–collection process, and it will allow you to have an easier experience organizing your dissertation.

Why does it matter?  One-step data collection minimizes fall-out or attrition among your subjects/participants. Some designs have pre-tests and then include teaching, training, or intervention, followed by a post-test. In this kind of design, some of the participants won’t come back or won’t be available for the second step in data collection. When this occurs, it creates unnecessary heartache for you. Overall, the easier design is one-step data collection.
