With all these obstacles in mind, it can be easy to get discouraged and give up, and it is quite common for students to quit before they have completed their dissertation. In fact, some doctoral students will physically leave the university before their dissertation is completed.

This may come in the form of an employment transfer or job offer before their data is collected or their proposal is approved. When you begin your dissertation, plan on completing the task without letting life—or distance—get in the way. Even though life is full of changes, it is important to remember the phrase “Out of sight, out of mind.” In other words, the farther you live from the university, the less likely you will be to complete your dissertation.
