Many students impede the completion of their own dissertation because of lost or misplaced references.

Within your personal literature library, you should include journal articles, books, dissertations/theses, governmental documents, and a list of references.

It is most helpful to create a references file on your computer that is alphabetized by author and thoroughly updated. Make sure to list all of the references available to you, even if you are unsure you will cite them all. It is much better to have a correct citation in one location than to risk misplacing other resources. When you do copy journal articles and book chapters, it is important to copy title and copyright pages, as well as the text.
