Don’t overwhelm yourself with all that you have to do. Do one thing at a time without thinking about how much other work is in front of you. This will assist you in focusing your thoughts and energy. The more you focus on one thing the easier it is to accomplish that one thing. We tend to put off what we are least comfortable doing and that’s okay because there’s so much to do in the dissertation process that all of the various things need to get done somehow.

I’ve noticed over the years that some students insist on reading, reading, and reading and of course reading is required. It can be an excuse for not writing and revising what we’ve written. If you make the commitment to do one thing at a time such as write a section, for instance the Background of the Problem. At least a rough draft could be accomplished regarding the Background of the Problem in one sitting.

Whether it was for an hour or hour and a half, that’s not the point. What is important is that you have focused on one thing that needs to be written and you had least have a rough draft of that topic. The more you focus on one thing, the more you will feel a sense of accomplishment.
